In the previous Blog’s we discussed Alpha Beta Theta and Delta minds.  The purpose of the discussion was to understand how the frequencies of our brain assists with different states of using our mind.  Alpha (8-12Hz) frequency is for relaxed, tranquil and conscious like if you are meditating.  Beta (13-30) relaxed yet focused mental activity such as math, Theta (4-8 Hz) fantasy, creative imagery, dreamlike.  Delta (0.1-3.5 Hz) is in a state of sleep. Understanding the frequency and states of mind can be important to understand how the mind works and what the mind needs to achieve each state.

The 5th mind frequency is Gamma (greater than 30 Hz) is thought to be the fastest brain activity.  Gamma is responsible for cognitive function, learning, memory and information processing. This frequency is found in every part of the brain.  When the brain needs to simultaneously process information from different areas of the, its hypothesized that the 40Hz activity consolidates the required area for simultaneous processing.  A good memory is associated with a mind that is regulated and efficient at 40Hz activity whereas a 40 Hz deficiency creates learning disabilities.

Understanding all of this is important because different waves are associated with anxiety (high Beta) any frequency between 13-30 Hz and knowing how to increase your Beta waves through listening to the right music, exercise, remaining hydrated or meditation can change mood.   Also, understanding if you want to sleep it makes sense not to stimulate too much with a higher frequency, you stay in delta waves (4-8 Hz).

Let’s learn how to relax and find the right brain wave, info@mindhealthconnect.ca
