What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy otherwise known in the short form as CBT.  The practice of CBT was created in the 1960’s and Dr Aaron T. Beck is credited with the creation, who was a Professor Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania for almost 70 years.  Originally created as a way to recognize and change negative thought patterns and behaviours.  Stressing the importance of recognizing that thoughts and feelings and behaviours are connected.

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps people identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviour to improve their mood and quality of life.  CBT is used to treat mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD, it can also be effective for other conditions.

CBT is a goal-oriented structured, hands-on approach that focuses on the present and finding solutions to current problems.  This type of therapy is a collaboration between client and therapist to identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.  CBT is practical self-help strategies that can be applied in clients’ daily lives which helps them take back their personal power.

Clients learn problem solving skills and ways to manage life stressors.  CBT doesn’t stop at the conditions sited above but also can be used to help manage non-psychological medical conditions like insomnia, chronic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, migraines, and irritable bowel syndrome.
