Meditation is a practice technique to train your attention and awareness and detach from reflective, discursive thinking. It is a way to exercise the mind to increase awareness.
The practice of meditation originated in the ancient Vedic of India and is described in the ancient Vedic text. Regular meditation practices help them be kind to themselves and more caring towards others, enhancing attention, emotional awareness, kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and mental calmness even in difficult situations. Mediation is mentioned in the bible as well.
Meditation refers to a family of self-regulation practices that focus on training attention and awareness to bring mental processes under greater voluntary control and thereby foster general mental well-being and development and/or specific capacities such as calm, clarity, and concentration.
There is a misconception that during meditation your mind is still, this is a practice, and your mind can and does wonder in and out of thoughts. Sitting and letting your mind wander is all part of the practice. Learning through the practice that eventually with awareness your mind can be prompted to shift from high alert waves to the slower more relaxed waves that are linked to states of calm, deep focus and sleep.
An easy practice is to close your eyes for 15 seconds and focus on your breathing. There you meditated, how does it feel?
