Breathwork is one of the most important starts to healing, people underestimate the power of breath. When you think about it, it makes sense. We know that your body reacts to breathing rapidly in an excitable manner. The body engages in fight, flight freeze preparation when breathing rapidly. When you practice controlled abdominal breathing relaxation occurs. The power of the deep breathing activates your parasympathetic nervous system, which takes you out of fight, flight, freeze.
Once the relaxation response is activated, then healing can occur helping to reduce blood pressure, increasing oxygen in your blood, slowing your heart rate. Bringing down stress, reducing pain, helps with cognitive function and soothes emotions like anxiety.
What happens if you practice breathwork every day? Well breath work can lead to all kinds of positive feelings. Focus and energy happens, which can lead to a better quality of life where there’s space for joy and fun. This is science backed that breath work yields a significant post calm and recovery more than non-breathwork.
The best technique is to exhale through the mouth. Take another deep breath in through your nose (as deep as you can). If possible, count to between 7 or 9 as you inhale and then slowly
Exhale through your mouth in less time than you inhaled.
