The importance of rest, if we practice taking time in our day for rest there are many positive benefits.  It prevents stress, prevents injury, boosts creativity, enhances mood, better mental health, more energy, improves your sleep, increases productivity, assist with body recovery, relief of chronic pain, stronger cardiovascular system, muscle repair, increases immune health etc. etc. etc., I think you see the point.

So many of us are caught in the grind of work, family responsibilities and ongoing stress (elderly parents, financial).  Often, we only allow ourselves to rest on holidays or vacation, if that, as we seem to know, always be connected without phones to work and responsibilities.  However, it is so important to prioritize adequate rest and quality sleep in your everyday life.  Rest and sleep are two different things, but both are equally important to your mental, emotional and physical health.

Rest can look different for everyone. Rest is any behaviour aimed at increasing physical and mental well-being.  It can be active, such as going for a walk outside, or passive, such as taking 10 minutes to sit down and breathe deeply.  Regardless of how you choose to rest, these daily behaviours can help you recover and recharge from physical and mental effort.  That’s why better rest is linked to better physical and mental health.

So, now you have a reason to stop and rest for a few minutes without feeling guilty!
