Taking Responsibility for Your Own Health

Foods with Invest in Your Health written in black letters on white book.

There is a need for you to take responsibility for their own health.  This means to take active measures to keep and improve your health, accept help, such as an exercise coach, or taking meditation classes and not offloading all your health responsibility onto your doctor or other professionals.

This means being active in managing your environment, including stress, engaging in healthy daily habits, like balanced eating and getting enough sleep.  Notice when you are stuck in negative thoughts or when your body is tired or rundown.  It is this awareness piece that is so important to gain control of your health.

Taking control of your health and lifestyle can reverse the effects of illness and restore your body to its optimal health. You deserve to live a long and healthy life.  Real healing happens from within, it affects your physical, mental and emotional well-being.  This is why it is so important to be proactive about your health and take steps to prevent illness and disease.  Being proactive in health means taking steps to improve your health before you get sick.

Avoiding responsibility can be a response to trauma.  Some people who experienced painful abuse, criticism, betrayal, rejection, or other trauma, continue to see themselves as victims, they focus on emotional pain and stay stuck in the emotion of it, almost like somewhere deep inside they are deserving of the pain, this thinking affects overall well-being both mentally and physically.

To become more accountable, make sure that you’re clear about your roles and responsibilities, be honest with yourself, admit when you are wrong, apologize and move forward.  Manage your time, get into a routine and stick with it, seek professional support to assist with the changes that will make your life healthier and you wiser.
