The lowest frequency of the mind is the Delta which is 3.5-7.5 Hz. This occurs in deep sleep when we increase Delta. We Decrease Delta during peak performance activity. The purpose of Delta state is to decrease our awareness of the physical world. Delta is the dominant rhythm in infants up to one year of age and it is present in stages 3 and 4 of sleep. Delta has the highest amplitude and the slowest waves.
During Delta we access information in our unconsciousness, this is probably why when we need to focus intensely or are required to accomplish something in peak performance, we decrease Delta to accomplish this.
Those with ADHD naturally increase Delta activity when trying to focus. This is an inappropriate response because increasing Delta will restrict the ability to focus and maintain attention. An example of delta is to imagine that you are driving a car and you shift into first gear and stay there so you never get anywhere fast.
Delta usually occurs during deep non-REM sleep, trance or unconscious sleep. If you are, lethargic, not moving and not attentive then it is thought you are in Delta. Therefore if you train to encourage Delta than you have learned to induce drowsiness and deep relaxing states.
If you have struggles with sleep maybe you need some training to learn to connect to Delta Mind, give us a call and let us help info@mindhealthconnect.ca
