Rewilding is a term used to define a form of ecological restoration aimed at increasing biodiversity and restoring a natural process. Unlike other forms of ecological restoration, rewilding aspires to reduce human influence on ecosystems.

There is a second terminology regarding rewilding that is called social rewilding.  Which I think is just as important. This is a movement towards authentic connection, real world engagement and re-balancing of technology’s role in our lives, often centered around nature and face-to- face interactions. The blessing to this movement is it is a shift away from excessive digital engagement and towards prioritizing real world experiences for well-being and joy.

There are four views on how to socially re-wild and they are: 1) spending more time in nature and engaging in activities where you can enjoy natures beauty 2) building genuine connections with others in the real world 3) making a conscious effort to reduce the time spent on screens and online interactions and making real world interactions the priority 4) fostering a sense of belonging and purpose

Why is rewilding so important because it improves mental and physical well-being, fostering community and promoting environmental awareness. All of which fosters our sense of belonging. Creating a more harmonious relationship between humans and nature. Both nature and humans benefit from this connection. Try it, drop the phone and take a walk.
